The most basic form of electric vehicle (EV) charging equipment is Level 1. Plugging into a standard 120-volt AC outlet, it provides an output of between 1.3 to 2.4 kW, which gives you a range of 3-5 miles for every hour of charging. While it might take a while to fully recharge a battery, 30-50 miles can be added during an overnight charge – ideal for most commuters. A full battery charge from empty could take upwards of 24 hours, making it important to plan accordingly.
While Level 1 charging stations are great for getting ready for a long car ride, they are not meant for daily charging. This type of charging is called “trickle charging” because it happens at a slow rate.
